CASEY TREES PARTNERS WITH DC RESIDENTS AND DDOT URBAN FORESTRY ADMINISTRATION TO RESTORE ELM CANOPY ON EAST CAPITOL STREET
On Thursday, January 15th, Casey Trees, Citizen Foresters, and DDOT Urban Forestry Administration continue their efforts to restore the District’s elm canopy by planting elms along the median of East Capitol Street. The project began with the installation of 25 elms by Casey Trees and DDOT Urban Forestry Administration on Friday, January 2nd and continued with the installation of an additional 29 elms on Saturday, January 10th with the assistance of 18 Casey Trees-trained Citizen Foresters. The project concludes on the 15th with the planting of an additional 25 to 30 elms by Casey Trees, DDOT Urban Forestry Administration and Citizen Foresters. Any trees not installed on the 15th will be planted by Casey Trees before the end of January.
Jim Woodworth, Casey Trees’ Director of Tree Planting, has expressed “This is a great addition to our ongoing efforts to restore the historic elm corridors in the District. The assistance of our Citizen Foresters and the DDOT Urban Forestry Administration in this effort is invaluable.” More information on Casey Trees’ elm restoration initiative can be found at http://www.caseytrees.org/planting/program-initiatives/elm-restoration/index.php
